Summer In John: Word Made Flesh
➡️ It's Summer in John Day One!!
John One is an introduction to the ministry of Jesus Christ and emphasizes his divine nature and role in creation. John 1:1-25 presents Jesus as the eternal Word of God, who played a significant role in creation, came to bring light and life to humanity, and was witnessed and testified to by John the Baptist. It establishes the divine nature of Jesus and prepares the foundation for the ministry of Jesus Christ as presented throughout the Gospel of John.
Verse 1: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
👉🏻 This verse establishes the preexistence and divinity of Jesus Christ. The term "Word" refers to Jesus, who existed from the beginning and was in a unique relationship with God. The phrase "the Word was God" affirms Jesus' identity as part of the divine Godhead.
Verse 2: "He was with God in the beginning."
👉🏻 This verse reinforces the idea that Jesus, as the Word, was present with God from the very beginning.
Verse 3: "Through him, all things were made; without him, nothing was made that has been made."
👉🏻 John highlights Jesus' role in creation. Everything that exists came into being through Jesus. This statement emphasizes Jesus' divine power and authority over all things.
Verse 4: "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind."
👉🏻 Jesus is the source of life and portrays him as the illuminating light for all humanity. Through Jesus, people can experience true life!
Enter John the Baptist!
🌞 Starting in verse 5 we are introduced to John the Baptist, who came as a witness to testify about the light (Jesus). John the Baptist played a crucial role in preparing the way for Jesus' ministry.
👉🏻 Verses 9-13: These verses emphasize that Jesus, as the true light, came into the world, but not everyone recognized or accepted him. Those who did accept and believe in Jesus were given the right to become children of God. This highlights the transformative power of faith in Jesus Christ.
👉🏻 Verses 14-18: These verses describe the incarnation of Jesus Christ. The Word became flesh and dwelt among humanity, revealing God's glory and grace. Jesus, as the unique Son of God, has made the Father known to us.
👉🏻 Verses 19-25: In this section, the religious authorities question John the Baptist about his identity and role. John clarifies that he is not the Messiah but a voice preparing the way for the Messiah. He identifies Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
